I’ve been writing articles about the history of Dayton for a few years now (as well as a book!), but only recently recorded my first video on the subject. Thankfully I’d been playing around with recording and screensharing for working remotely which first culminated in my series of three videos all about spotting and avoiding fake news.
After I’d gotten the hang of those (which were the first I’ve ever posted on YouTube) I decided to shift my video focus to my Dayton history research. I had several Lost Dayton book presentations scheduled for the spring months, but due to COVID-19 and the stay at home orders all of those were cancelled. I figured it’d be a good idea to record an adapted presentation and share that online through Dayton Vistas and my email newsletter.
I decided to cover some different sites from my book than what I typically show for my in-person book talks, which ended up being the Dayton Arcade, Steele High School, the Classic and Palace Theaters, and several historic libraries including the old downtown library, the east and west Carnegie libraries, and the Electra C. Doren branch.

I’m planning on making additional history videos, so if you’re interested please go ahead and subscribe to my YouTube channel so you can be notified of future uploads. Hope you enjoy it!
