Earlier this summer I gave a talk about Dayton’s rail history for the local chapter of All Aboard Ohio at the Hub at the Dayton Arcade.
And just a few days ago, I recorded a video version for my Dayton Vistas YouTube channel.
I cover our beautiful lost Union Station as well as other sites connected to Dayton’s early train history as well as our old interurban and streetcar networks.
In Dayton, the last passenger train ran in 1979 and the last remnants of Union Station were razed in the following decade. (And the beautiful tower depot which had opened in 1900 was demolished in 1964.)
In the video I also summarize current efforts to bring passenger rail back, which is being led by the advocacy organization All Aboard Ohio.

The graphic below shows several routes under consideration. The dark line is the 3C+D route that would connect Dayton to Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland.
