Recently I’ve been doing a lot of local history events, from my lunchtime walking tours at Courthouse Square to smaller visits and tours for Sinclair faculty and staff.
I also recently gave a talk at the Hub at the Dayton Arcade about Dayton’s train and rail history for the All Aboard Ohio group. I’m working on taking that content and turning it into a video for my YouTube channel as well, so stay tuned on that!
My next live event is going to be a big one, the first in what I hope will be a series of history talks at the Dayton Arcade that focused on its rich history, as well as how it connects to the broader story of downtown.
I’m extra excited for this one because the Dayton Arcade is a truly special place for me. I first walked through it when it was still in really rough shape with an uncertain future, and I passed its shuttered entrances almost every day going to and from work.

Then I eagerly followed (and reported on) all of its redevelopment news and construction progress, and was thrilled when I got to walk in to The Hub and the new apartments for the first time, and after that the restaurants, hotel, and retail spaces as they opened in turn.
So now I’m excited to get a chance to give this talk at the Arcade which will be at the Tank, a really cool event space not normally open to the public.
I’ll be sharing some of my research on Dayton business and industry in and around the Arcade complex, with lots of old photos and maps and forgotten stories.
Tickets are available on Eventbrite and also include a drink!
